Garlic Harvest

Despite the heavy rains the garlic harvest was a success! Next year I will plant more. It is so simple to put cloves into the ground in the fall and then they take care of themselves until harvest time (usually mid June but I was late due to my hectic schedule).

Filling a basin of water the first rinse is best done with the necks still on so there is something to grab onto while swishing around.

For the next rinse I cut off the necks and rubbed the heads together.

in the final rinse when the dirt is nearly gone I trim the roots off of the ends of the garlic heads and rub off any loose skin and whatever remaining dirt may be stuck in the root system

The clean garlic heads are ready to come inside to be used fresh and/or dried and stored for future use.
